Here is a suggested way to get a wheelchair user off the floor using a hoist:
- Assess the individual's physical and cognitive abilities to determine the safest and most appropriate method of transfer
- Prepare the area to ensure the safety of the individual and those assisting
- Use a hoist with a sling that is appropriate for the individual's weight, mobility and comfort
- Communicate clearly with the individual and those assisting, ensuring that everyone is aware of the transfer plan and their roles.
- Ensure the hoist is positioned correctly, and the individual is positioned comfortably and securely in the sling.
- Use the hoist to lift the individual safely off the floor, keeping the individual's body supported and secure throughout the transfer.
- Once the transfer is complete, ensure that the individual is settled comfortably in their wheelchair or other equipment.
It is important to note that this is just a general guideline and that the specific method used may vary depending on the individual's needs and abilities.
