Balmoral Plus Replacement Mattress
Overview
The Balmoral Plus Replacement Mattress is Harvest Healthcare’s premium pressure-reducing active mattress system, designed for the prevention and management of pressure ulcers in high-dependency care environments. Developed for patients at very high risk of developing pressure damage, the mattress is also suitable for supporting the treatment of up to Stage 4 pressure ulcers.
Combining advanced alternating pressure therapy with integrated foam support, the Balmoral Plus delivers exceptional patient comfort, safety, and clinical performance. Designed as a full replacement mattress, it is ideal for hospitals, nursing homes, and specialist care environments where reliable long-term pressure care is essential.
Advanced Alternating Pressure System
The mattress consists of 27 individual cells, including 23 alternating air cells and 4 static pillow section cells. These cells work together to provide continuous pressure redistribution while maintaining stability and comfort for the patient.
The alternating air cells inflate and deflate in a controlled cycle, helping to reduce prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas of the body. This dynamic movement promotes circulation and supports the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
The static pillow section provides stable support for the head and upper body, ensuring comfort and positioning stability during use.
Each air cell is manufactured from pure PU material and is fully interchangeable, allowing for easy cleaning, maintenance, and replacement if required.
Integrated Foam Base Support
Beneath the alternating cell structure is a 50mm foam support layer that provides additional stability and safety. This foam layer ensures continued support beneath the user and helps redistribute pressure effectively across the mattress surface.
The integrated foam base also offers reassurance during temporary power interruptions by maintaining a supportive surface beneath the alternating air system.
Transport and Emergency Features
The Balmoral Plus includes a transport cap integrated into the connector system, allowing air pressure to be maintained within the mattress during patient transport. When the transport cap is used correctly, the mattress can remain inflated for approximately 24 hours without power.
For emergency situations, the mattress features a CPR quick-release valve. Opening the CPR valve allows the system to rapidly deflate when immediate clinical access is required.
The Balmoral Plus also incorporates a unique three-part static air cell mat that can be deflated during cardiac arrest procedures, supporting emergency response requirements in professional healthcare environments.
Durable Protective Cover
The mattress is supplied with a high-quality 4-way stretch welded PU cover designed to maximise both patient comfort and infection control standards.
Key benefits of the cover include:
Vapour permeable material to support skin health
Water-resistant construction for protection against fluids
Crib 5 fire rating for healthcare safety compliance
Welded seams to prevent water ingress and improve durability
4-way stretch fabric to support effective pressure redistribution
The cover is designed for demanding healthcare environments and supports effective cleaning and decontamination procedures.
Bedrail Compliance and Safety
The Balmoral Plus has been designed to ensure bedrail compliance on UK-manufactured profiling beds. This supports safer integration within healthcare environments while helping maintain patient safety during use.
Maintenance and Practicality
All air cells are individually interchangeable, making the mattress straightforward to maintain and repair. This modular construction reduces downtime, lowers maintenance costs, and extends the lifespan of the mattress system.
Its durable construction and practical design make it a reliable long-term solution for high-risk patient care.
