Duke Active Mattress
Overview
The Duke Active Mattress is a high-quality alternating pressure replacement mattress designed for patients who are frail or at very high risk of developing pressure ulcers. It is suitable for use in clinical environments where advanced pressure relief and consistent support are required, including the treatment and management of up to Stage 4 pressure ulcers.
The system combines dynamic air cell therapy with integrated foam support to provide a reliable and effective pressure redistribution solution. It is intended as a full replacement mattress for long-term care settings where continuous pressure management is essential.
Alternating Pressure System
The mattress is made up of 30 individual cells, consisting of 25 alternating air cells and 5 static pillow section cells. These cells work together to deliver consistent pressure relief while maintaining comfort and stability.
The alternating air cells inflate and deflate in a controlled cycle, redistributing pressure across the body and helping to reduce prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas. This supports both the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
The static pillow section provides stable support for the head and upper body, ensuring correct positioning and comfort throughout use.
Each air cell is individually replaceable, making maintenance easier and reducing downtime if damage occurs.
Foam Base Support Layer
Beneath the cell structure is a 50mm integral foam base. This layer provides additional stability and improves overall weight distribution across the mattress surface.
The foam layer helps to improve comfort, reduce movement sensation during operation, and support consistent pressure redistribution when used in combination with the alternating air cells.
Mattress Cover and Protection
The mattress is enclosed within a durable, water-resistant PU cover designed to protect the internal components and support infection control procedures.
The cover features welded seams to prevent fluid ingress and allow for safe decontamination. It is also vapour permeable to support skin health and reduce moisture build-up.
The cover holds a Crib 5 fire rating, ensuring compliance with healthcare safety standards.
Both the foam and cell systems can be removed for cleaning and decontamination, supporting high hygiene requirements in clinical environments.
Clinical Use and Suitability
The Duke Active Mattress is recommended for patients at very high risk of pressure ulcer development. It is also suitable for supporting the treatment of existing pressure damage, including up to Stage 4 pressure ulcers.
It is commonly used in hospitals, nursing homes, and specialist care environments where advanced pressure care is required.
Pump Compatibility and Weight Capacity
The mattress is compatible with Harvest Healthcare pump systems, specifically the Harvest 250 and Harvest 3 models.
Maximum patient weight limits are as follows:
Harvest 250 Pump supports up to 26 stone (165 kg)
Harvest 3 Pump supports up to 39 stone (247 kg)
This allows the system to accommodate a wide range of patient requirements, including bariatric care.
Maintenance and Durability
The mattress is designed for ease of maintenance with individually replaceable air cells. This allows damaged components to be replaced quickly and cost-effectively, extending product lifespan and reducing service disruption.
