Arjo Sara Stedy Standing and Transfer Aid
The Arjo Sara Stedy is a dependable and versatile standing and transfer aid designed to support safe patient handling in both healthcare and home care environments. It provides stable and controlled assistance for individuals with limited mobility, helping to facilitate standing, balance, and everyday transfers with confidence and dignity.
Suitable for users who are able to bear some weight and actively participate in the movement, the Sara Stedy encourages natural motion while reducing physical strain on carers. It is commonly used for transfers between bed and chair, chair to chair, and to and from the toilet, making it a practical and effective solution for routine mobility needs.
Constructed from durable, high-quality materials, the Sara Stedy offers excellent stability and long-term reliability. Its robust frame is designed to withstand frequent use in demanding clinical environments, while remaining equally well suited for use within the home. This combination of strength and practicality ensures consistent performance and user reassurance during every transfer.
The ergonomic design of the Arjo Sara Stedy focuses on comfort, safety, and ease of use for both user and carer. The padded handle provides a secure and comfortable grip, enabling users to pull themselves into a standing position with greater control and stability.
Manoeuvrability is another key advantage of the Sara Stedy. Its compact frame allows it to be easily positioned in confined areas such as bathrooms, bedrooms, and narrow clinical spaces. This makes it particularly suitable for environments where space is limited, without compromising stability or safety.
By promoting active participation and providing secure support, the Arjo Sara Stedy helps to reduce the risk of manual handling injuries for carers while enhancing confidence and independence for users. It is an effective solution for rehabilitation, post-operative recovery, and long-term mobility support.

Can I use it with a Stairlift?
Using a Sara Stedy with a stairlift is a common way to manage mobility between floors, but it requires enough space on the landing to manoeuvre. The process relies on using the Sara Stedy to get the person to the lift, then transferring them onto the stairlift seat.
The Setup
First, bring the stairlift to the landing and prepare the seat. If the stairlift has a swivel seat, rotate it so it faces the landing. This is the most important step for a safe transfer. Position the Sara Stedy directly in front of the stairlift seat.
The Transfer to the Stairlift
Once the Sara Stedy is in position, lock the brakes on its wheels. Have the user hold the crossbar and stand up. Rotate the seat paddles outward so they are out of the way. Guide the user to slowly lower themselves onto the stairlift seat, using the Sara Stedy crossbar for balance until they are safely seated. Fasten the stairlift seatbelt and swivel the seat back into the travel position. Move the Sara Stedy out of the way before moving the lift.
The Transfer from the Stairlift
When the user reaches the other floor, swivel the stairlift chair to face the landing. Position the Sara Stedy (or a second unit kept on that floor) directly in front of the user and lock the brakes. The user reaches for the crossbar and pulls themselves into a standing position. The caregiver then flips the seat paddles down behind the user. Once the user is seated on the paddles, unlock the brakes and move away.
Important Safety Considerations
Space Requirements: The Sara Stedy is about 62 cm (24 inches) wide. Make sure your landing is large enough to turn the device around once the user is on it.
The Gap: Keep the Sara Stedy as close to the stairlift as possible. A large gap between the device and the stairlift footrest creates a tripping hazard.
Two Devices: Because the Sara Stedy weighs about 30 kg, it is very difficult to carry up and down stairs. Many people find it safer to have one unit for the upstairs and a separate unit for the downstairs.
Swivel Seats: If your stairlift seat does not swivel to face the landing, using a Sara Stedy is much more difficult because the legs of the device will often hit the stairs or the lift rail, preventing a close enough approach.
