Product Description

Arjo Sara Stedy Standing and Transfer Aid

The Arjo Sara Stedy is a dependable and versatile standing and transfer aid designed to support safe patient handling in both healthcare and home care environments. It provides stable and controlled assistance for individuals with limited mobility, helping to facilitate standing, balance, and everyday transfers with confidence and dignity.

Suitable for users who are able to bear some weight and actively participate in the movement, the Sara Stedy encourages natural motion while reducing physical strain on carers. It is commonly used for transfers between bed and chair, chair to chair, and to and from the toilet, making it a practical and effective solution for routine mobility needs.

Constructed from durable, high-quality materials, the Sara Stedy offers excellent stability and long-term reliability. Its robust frame is designed to withstand frequent use in demanding clinical environments, while remaining equally well suited for use within the home. This combination of strength and practicality ensures consistent performance and user reassurance during every transfer.

The ergonomic design of the Arjo Sara Stedy focuses on comfort, safety, and ease of use for both user and carer. The padded handle provides a secure and comfortable grip, enabling users to pull themselves into a standing position with greater control and stability.

Manoeuvrability is another key advantage of the Sara Stedy. Its compact frame allows it to be easily positioned in confined areas such as bathrooms, bedrooms, and narrow clinical spaces. This makes it particularly suitable for environments where space is limited, without compromising stability or safety.

By promoting active participation and providing secure support, the Arjo Sara Stedy helps to reduce the risk of manual handling injuries for carers while enhancing confidence and independence for users. It is an effective solution for rehabilitation, post-operative recovery, and long-term mobility support.

Product FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Sara Stedy?
It is designed to encourage patients to participate in their own transfers. It simplifies the process for caregivers by reducing the physical strain of manual lifting while providing a secure way to move patients over short distances.
Who is the ideal candidate for using this device?
The Sara Stedy is intended for users who:

Can follow simple instructions.
Have enough leg strength to support their own weight while standing.
Have enough upper body strength to grasp the handlebars.
Are able to weight bear and maintain balance with minimal assistance.
Who should NOT use the Sara Stedy?
It is not suitable for patients who are completely non-weight-bearing, combative, or have zero trunk control. If a patient cannot assist in the pull-to-stand motion, a full mechanical lift may be required.
What is the weight capacity of the Sara Stedy?
The standard Sara Stedy has a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 182 kg (400 lbs). There is also a Sara Stedy Compact version for smaller residents, which typically has the same weight capacity but a smaller frame.
How do the swivel seats work?
The device features two paddle-shaped seat wings. You rotate them outward to allow the patient to stand up. Once the patient is standing, you rotate the paddles back behind them to create a secure seat for the transfer.
Can it be used for toileting?
Yes. Because the seat is composed of two separate paddles, it is highly effective for positioning a patient over a toilet. Once they are standing and the device is positioned, the paddles can be opened to allow for clothing adjustment.
Does it require a battery or power source?
No. The Sara Stedy is a fully manual device. This makes it highly reliable and always available, as there are no batteries to charge or motors to fail.
How should the device be cleaned?
Daily: Wipe down touchpoints (handles, seats, and kneepads) with a mild detergent or hospital-grade disinfectant wipes.

Avoid: Do not use abrasive cleaners or strong acids, as these can damage the powder-coated frame and the plastic components.
Do the wheels require maintenance?
Yes. You should regularly check the casters for hair, lint, or debris buildup, as this can make the device harder to push. Ensure the rear brakes lock securely and that the pedal-operated chassis legs (which open and close to fit around wide chairs) move smoothly.
Troubleshooting & Best Practices for Sara Stedy
Issue: Difficult to push. Potential Solution: Check if the brakes are engaged or if debris is caught in the wheels.

Issue: Legs won't open/close. Potential Solution: Ensure the foot pedal is being pressed fully and that the device is on a level surface.

Issue: Patient feels unstable. Potential Solution: Ensure the patient’s knees are firmly against the kneepad and they are holding the crossbar correctly.
What are the height limits when using the Sara Stedy?
The maximum height for a person using a Sara Stedy depends on which model you are using. Arjo provides two versions to accommodate different body types.

Sara Stedy (Standard)
Recommended User Height: 149–193 cm
Maximum Height: 6'4" (193 cm)

Sara Stedy Compact
Recommended User Height: 138–172 cm
Maximum Height: 5'8" (172 cm)
How much does a Sara Stedy cost?
Purchasing a brand-new unit from a medical supplier usually includes a manufacturer’s warranty (typically 1 year).

Standard Sara Stedy: £1,200 – £1,550 (Excl. VAT)

Sara Stedy Compact: £1,150 – £1,400 (Excl. VAT)

With VAT (20%): If you do not qualify for relief, expect to pay between £1,400 and £1,850.
What long is the Sara Stedy Warranty
The warranty for a Sara Stedy is one year but we do offer extended warranties from one, two or three years. Call today for further information.
