If you use a Likorall ceiling-mounted hoist, please read this. It affects the safety of the people you care for, and there are practical steps you can take now.

What has happened?

On 7th October 2026, Baxter Healthcare issued an Urgent Field Safety Notice (reference FA-2026-020) for the Likorall ceiling-mounted overhead patient lift system, manufactured by Liko AB.

The notice concerns a possible motor shaft breakage combined with reduced performance of the Single Fault Safety (SFS) system. The SFS system is designed to slow the lift if the motor shaft breaks. In some units, low oil levels in the SFS safety drum may reduce that braking function, and because the oil level isn’t visible, users can’t check it themselves.

In rare cases where both faults happen together, the lift strap may lower faster than expected. Baxter says this could put the person being lifted at risk of a fall or drop, with injuries ranging from minor to critical. A caregiver trying to prevent a fall could also be at risk of musculoskeletal injury.

Which products are affected?

The notice covers a wide range of Likorall models and serial number ranges, including the Likorall 200, 242, 243 and 250 variants. The full list is in Baxter’s notice, so please check your hoist’s model and serial number against it. If you’re unsure, contact Baxter or the company that supplied or installed your equipment.

What should you do now?

Baxter’s notice asks customers to:

  • Contact Baxter and complete the customer reply form. Return it to uk_shs_fca@baxter.com, even if you have no affected stock. Baxter will arrange inspection or correction of affected devices.
  • Use an alternative if you can. Baxter recommends using a mobile lift until your hoist has been inspected.
  • Take extra precautions if you must keep using the hoist. Follow the Safety Instructions in the Instructions for Use. Use additional caregiver assistance, keep the person at the lowest practical height, clear the transfer area, and stop immediately if you see instability or have any concerns about the equipment.
  • Tell everyone involved. Share the notice with all carers and colleagues who use the hoist, and display it near the affected equipment until the correction is complete.

For general questions about the notice, Baxter Technical Support (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday).

Looking for an alternative ceiling track hoist?

We understand that an inspection may take time to arrange, and some customers may prefer not to wait. If you already have Liko ceiling rails installed, you may not need to replace your whole installation.

Our Molift 200 and 205 ceiling track hoists can be retrofitted to all Liko rails. That means you can keep your existing track and fit a new hoist unit, avoiding the cost and disruption of removing and replacing the rail system.

Retrofitting a ceiling hoist is not a DIY job. We’ll confirm compatibility with your existing rail, arrange professional fitting, and make sure you and your carers are confident using the new unit.
